Club Night - 17th September 2026

This Thursday I will bid my younger son as he travels down to Swansea to begin his University course. So with that in mind here is this weeks image:

That then lead me to think that we should do some songs based around journeys, roads, Wales, etc.

We had a gig recently and those of us on the WhatsApp will have seen some comments on there. I do feel that we should remind ourselves that this is something that we do for fun and we should not be too hard on anyone if things are not perfect. If that was what we were looking for then we would have a very different club and club nights would be all about getting better and rehearsing for performances. This is clearly not the case!

For gigs, we do need to rehearse. This is natural. With our reduced gig list, this does make this easier, but we still need some practice. Particularly the intros. Generally, once we are going we go well. My thoughts is that we should save the rehearsal time for after the tea break. We would hopefully not need to use up all that time either. This would make the First section all about the club playing for itself and its members etc.

One thing that can make or break a song is the tempo. This is a really tricky thing to get right and I am all too aware that I mess up often. There are options for this. One idea being a dedicated person to count us in. We can have a think about that as we get closer to our next gig. The list is down below.

Here is the list of gigs that we currently have in our schedule.

Saturday 3rd October - Morrisons

Morrisons entrance. Again, this is at Morrisons but in aid of our chosen charity, Yorkshire Air Ambulance. We are suggesting two slots, between the times of 11 and 1. There is the cafe we can go to for a coffee break! 

Thursday 8th October @7:45pm (TBC)

The Town Hall will be available from 3pm on the day and we're welcome to come and drop off the music and stands then if that helps? We would have a little rehearsal in the club and then go to the hall. Then we would head back to finish our night.

Saturday 31st October (TBC)

Gargrave Beer Festival. I am sure we would like to do this one (hic!). Still TBC though.

Wednesday 9th December Threshfield WI

Still awaiting final details, but it is an evening performance.

Sunday 13th December - Holy Trinity Church

This will be a daytime gig. More details to come.

The Xmas song list is out now. Hopefully people have picked up a copy. I know that some people may only want to play xmas songs only in December but that is just not what needs to happen. We want to entertain as much as possible. The best way to avoid practice time at the club, is to practice at home so that we only need to play a song once or twice and we are ready. We will need to practice them in November. Possibly even October if there is a particular song we want to include, but do not have gig ready.

We are also asking that you think about what could be in the "Gig Book" for next year. What was missing from this year? Is there a new song that we really should work on and add to it? As stated in the club last week, try to create a list and then email it in. That way we can have a more anonymous selection.
